How to chat with mIRC

You can connect to our Live Gold Chat in two ways, first is via our web page link, or you can download free program called mIRC which allows you to connect directly to the mIRC network of server.  Connecting via mIRC allows you to take advantage of all the advance features mIRC has to offer, including a great add in called a Microsoft Agent (small character that will actually speak what is said by others in the chat window) or which can be configured to convert your speech to text directly into the chat, for you chicken pickers, if have a  microphone hooked up. I will get to that in a bit, fist lets get you set up with mIRC!

(all links will open a second window, complete the task then close it to come back here)

IRC SERVERS

  1. First click here to download your free mIRC and then install it.

  2. Open mIRC, if the Connect windows doesn't open automatically open,  you need to click on <File>,  <Options>,<connect tab> the at the top of the window on the right you will see an add button, click it and then a window will open, make a name in the description window, in the IRC Server put irc.ircstorm.net, and leave group and password blank, click ok, then in the connect tab fill in your nick name as you want it to appear, and a alternate, then click on connect to this server button (should show your new connection, what ever you named it, in the window above the connect to server button). Your mIRC should connect to the server. You will then need to type in the status window, /join #prospectorstore and hit enter.  It should bring up the Prospector Chat Window, where you can chat in the same channel as all the others that join via the java chat (link on prospectorstore.com). That's it your in! Now for your Microsoft agent.

  3. Download and install the MSagent.exe with the core components of Microsoft Agent 2.0 (391K). The installation of this MSagent.exe installer file goes very quickly. Do not worry if you see no obvious results! It places various DLL's on your PC (in the c:\windows\Msagent\ directory) and integrates MS Agent with your system. Note that Windows 2000 and Windows Me and XP users can skip this step. The core components are already installed by default on Windows 2000, ME and XP.

  4. From the Microsoft Agent Downloads page download one or more character files (or click here for more). Choose from Genie, Merlin, Robby or Peedy. Peedy the Parrot seems to be rather popular but also is the largest; 3.3 MB!  I like the Merlin, but there is allot more available here. Install the character(s) on your PC. Again this goes quickly. You will just see some new file(s) in the c:\windows\Msagent\Chars\ directory.

5.     Click here and download the English version from the pop down and install a Text-to-Speech engine. The Lernout & Hauspie TruVoice Text-to-Speech   (TTS) Engine provides speech output capabilities for Microsoft Agent so you can hear what the characters are saying through your sound speakers. We downloaded the Lernout & Hauspie TruVoice Text-to-Speech Engine - English (1MB). Installation takes only seconds. Please note, if you are using Windows XP, you might need to download and  install the SAPI 4.0 Runtime support.

6.    Now in your mIRC program click on <file>,<options>, then the perform tab, in the perform window, just type in one command per line and it will automatically perform these commands on connect.  Add these lines, so you don't have to manually connect each time, you can also use it to identify you each time you enter (if you register your nickname). Replace the Merlin with the name of your character you choose from the downloads page or the Agent Web Ring page.

/gload merlin merlin.acs

/gshow merlin

/join #prospectorstore

/msg nickserv identify <put your password here without <>>

you can adjust your agent in <file>,<options>, sounds tab, then agents tab...

That's it your ready, now just reopen your mIRC (close and restart it) and you are ready, your genie should be up and talking!

email me if you have any troubles or come in the java chat and we will help you.
